🚨 Funded PhD Position – Landscape Ecology & Conservation Prioritization (UBC)
▪︎ The MESH Lab at the University of British Columbia, led by Dr. Matthew Mitchell (Department of Forest Resources Management), is recruiting a funded PhD student to start May or September 2027.
📍Project: A collaborative effort with UBC, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, and Metro Vancouver, examining how future land use and climate change will affect ecosystem services across Canada, and where conservation should be prioritized to protect them.
▪︎ Ideal for students interested in landscape/spatial ecology, social-ecological systems, climate science, or conservation prioritization.
Requirements: MSc in ecology or a related field, GIS/spatial analysis skills, strong communication skills.
▪︎ Experience with tools like InVEST, ARIES, MARXAN, or the prioritizr R package is a plus.
▪︎ Funding: $40,000/year stipend + benefits for 4 years.
▪︎ Location: UBC Point Grey campus, Vancouver.
